The University Grants Commission (UGC) has entrusted the responsibility of conducting UGC-NET to NTA. UGC-NET is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges.
Selection of candidates for the following Fellowships of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment/ Minority Affair shall also be made on the basis of UGC-NET from the cycle of June 2020 onwards:

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official notification for the recruitment of UGC-NET for ‘Assistant Professor’ and for ‘Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor both’ in June 2020.Name of examination: Joint UGC NET JUNE 2020
Educational Qualification UGC NET JUNE 2020
General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC (available on the website: CLICK HERE in Humanities and Social Science(including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test.
List of subjects at Post Graduation level is attached as Annexure-IV of the Advertisement Details. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Transgender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01-06-2020
Asst Professor: There is no upper age limit.
Age relaxation is applicable as per rules.
How to apply UGC NET June 2020 [Application Form]
Candidates can fill UGC NET 2020 Application Form in online mode only at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
Step 1: UGC NET Registration 2020
- Visit the official website and click on Apply online to fill the registration page.
- Enter your personal details, email ID and mobile number.
Step 2: Filling UGC NET Application Form 2020
- Post-registration, a system generated application number will be sent on the email Id and mobile number.
- Login again and select your subject, position and preferred exam center.
Step 3: Uploading Scanned Images
- Now, upload your photograph and signature in the specified format.

Step 4: Pay UGC NET Application Fee

NTA UGC NET 2020 FAQs
Q1.In how many subjects will UGC NET be conducted?
NTA will conduct the exam for 81 subject disciplines. Paper 1 will be common for all the candidates and paper 2 will be based on the subject opted by the candidate. The total time duration to complete both papers is 3 hours without any break between paper 1 and 2. There will be no negative marking in the exam. Candidates are advised to go through the syllabus of UGC NET to prepare for the exam.
Q2.How many papers we have to qualify?
Students will have to qualify only two papers (Paper 1 & Paper 2). As per the data of previous year, a total of 10,34,872 candidates had registered in UGC NET December 2019 session, out of which 7,93,813 appeared and 60,147 exam takers qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only whereas 5,092 qualified for both JRF & eligible for Assistant Professor.
Q3.What is the maximum age limit to apply for NTA UGC NET 2020?
The upper age limit for JRF is 30 years. No age limit for Assistant Professorship. Other than that candidates must have scored at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) in their Post Graduation or equivalent from any recognized university.
Q4.What is the validity of UGC NET score?
The validity of UGC NET e-certificate is lifetime, however, the validity of the JRF Letter of Award is only two years after the result is declared.
Q5.Will the exam be conducted in online mode?
Yes, from June 2018, the examination is conducted in computer-based mode. The registration process will also be online and start on March 16, 2020.
Q6.How many questions will be there in UGC NET?
There will be a total of 150 objective-type questions, for which maximum marks awarded is 300.
Q7.Is there any negative marking in the paper?
No, there is no negative marking in the paper. For each correct answer, you will get 2 marks.
Q8.When will be the admit card available?
The admit card for UGC NET 2020 will be available on the official website from May 15, 2020. Students can download their admit cards from there by logging in to their accounts.
Q9.When will the results be out?
The results for UGC NET 2020 will be released on July 5, 2020. Candidates can check their result by entering their Roll Number and DOB.
Q10.What is the cutoff for UGC NET 2020?
General candidates have to score minimum 40% aggregate in Paper 1 and Paper 2 while OBC-NCL/ PwD/ SC/ ST candidates have to score 35%.
